Thermal Products was approached by an international firm who builds carbon capture equipment for ships. Large ocean-going ship owners are facing significant pressure to lower emissions and decarbonizing from new regulations, customer demands, and company shareholders. Thermal Products was asked to design an Indeeco electric circulation heater to exacting specifications, some of which was all 316 stainless steel construction for the corrosion protection properties along with an SCR control panel to measure flow and outlet process gas temperature.
The equipment, along with the Indeeco electric circulation heater is installed adjacent to a ship’s funnel to trap up to 95% of the CO2 from the exhaust, using patent-pending technology that required elevated gas temperatures that the custom designed Indeeco electric circulation heater supplied. The onboard device traps emissions from the ship’s exhaust, then the captured CO2 is unloaded when the ship docks. The captured CO2 is then sold for utilization or sequestration (held in liquid or solid form).
