Indeeco Heat Trace: Advancements Over Traditional Designs

large-Indeeco Heat Trace

Heat trace technology has evolved significantly over the years. Earlier systems were factory-fabricated to fixed lengths, designed around specific voltage and resistance values to achieve a target temperature. These systems were commonly used for basic freeze protection in piping. However, many lacked thermostat controls, which often led to overheating when ambient temperatures increased. This not only reduced efficiency but also caused premature system failures—often without any clear indication that a problem had occurred.

Indeeco has addressed these challenges with modern heat trace solutions that offer improved reliability, flexibility, and performance across a wide range of temperature applications.

At the core of Indeeco’s technology is a semi-conductive polymer that automatically adjusts power output in response to pipe temperature. This self-regulating capability eliminates localized hot spots—an issue commonly found in older designs—and ensures consistent, efficient heating. While heat trace has traditionally been associated with freeze protection, these advanced systems can now maintain temperatures up to 375°F, making them suitable for process temperature maintenance. This is especially useful in applications where materials must be transported through piping systems between locations or buildings while maintaining a constant temperature.

The process begins with a Thermal Products Sales Engineer gathering project details and coordinating with Indeeco’s engineering team. Based on these specifications, a comprehensive quote is generated. Heat trace cable is supplied by the required length, with a defined wattage per foot, and can be easily cut in the field to accommodate multiple branches. Indeeco also provides all necessary installation components, including end seal termination kits, glass tape, insulation, power connections, and thermostats.

Additional options include end seal light kits, which visually confirm that the system is powered and functioning properly, as well as multi-circuit controllers that allow monitoring of several heat trace lines simultaneously.

Indeeco has also streamlined its product offerings, focusing on simplified model selection and material construction, making pricing and voltage the primary differentiators. Systems are available in standard voltage ranges from 120 to 277 volts.

The product lineup includes:

CRG Series – Designed for commercial roof and gutter applications, primarily for freeze protection. These systems are certified with UL, CSA, and FM approvals.

For industrial applications, Indeeco offers three categories of self-regulating heat trace cables based on maximum maintain temperature:

All industrial models carry certifications including UL, CSA, FM, CE, and ATEX, ensuring compliance with a wide range of safety and performance standards
