Immersed Heat Transfer Plates Used in Tank to Maintain Temperature at Chemical Process Facility

Application

A major manufacturer of household and commercial plumbing faucets selected the ECONOCOIL Heat Transfer plate product to heat a cleaning process step. The ECONOCOIL Heat Transfer plate is immersed in a chemical bath to effectively clean the metal surfaces of oils and other fluids prior to plating. Maintaining the tank’s required temperature consistently ensures that the customer’s part surfaces are clean for the downstream plating operations. This customer prides itself on the fine luster finishes achieved on all their products.

 Product

 The Style 50D, 35” x 48” ECONOCOIL Heat Transfer plate with hydraulically inflated channel plates were constructed of 16/16-gauge, high grade Titanium material, horizontally mounted and immersed in the chemical bath. The Titanium material was selected due to its high strength and superior corrosion resistance in caustic solutions. Custom pipe connections were installed to match the existing pipe connections for ease of installation in the existing system.

 Operation

The ECONOCOIL Heat Transfer plate was selected for this project because of lower investment costs and yet be able to achieve the temperature rise and maintain those temperature values necessary to effectively clean the customer’s products. A loss in temperature control could result in production downtime or unnecessary rework due to the ineffective cleaning process step. The heating medium for this application passing through the ECONOCOIL Heat Transfer plate to heat the cleaning tank fluid was steam.
